The model experiment for the geyser can be constructed from a 1 liter round flask, a glass tube with stopper, a 2 meter long hose and a funnel. When heated, the steam pressure of the water in the flask drives all water into the funnel. This is dimensioned accordingly large. The boiling temperature rises due to the pressure of the water column. As soon as the water boils and a steam channel has formed between the round bottom flask and the funnel, the excess pressure collapses, the water evaporates violently and the water temperature drops. The water falls back into the flask and the process begins again.
